The HDI 1522 Choke Position Indicator System is an electronic instrument designed to accurately measure and display the position of choke valves used in oil and gas production. Choke valves regulate the flow of oil, gas, or water from wells by adjusting the degree of restriction in the pipeline, which directly affects pressure control and production rates. The 1522 system provides highly precise position readings in one percent increments, ranging from fully closed (0%) to fully open (100%), enabling better management of well performance and enhanced safety.


This system uses solid-state electronics to convert mechanical valve movement into electronic signals via various potentiometer types—including linear, rotary, and retractable options—making it adaptable to a wide variety of choke valve designs and configurations. The position data is presented on a four-inch liquid crystal display that combines a numeric readout with a linear bar graph, allowing clear and immediate visualization of the choke’s exact position. The display is engineered for visibility from distances up to fifteen feet, suitable for typical field environments.


Powered by an internal, field-replaceable battery with approximately one year of continuous operation, the 1522 system minimizes maintenance requirements and eliminates the need for complex wiring.
